When Molly died we were just trying to take in the reality of losing our little girl. But during the planning of the funeral, charitable donations were discussed as a way to honor Molly’s memory. We decided to give people the option of donating to a charity that helped families who have lost their children pay for grave markers. After we discovered that no organization like this exists, we decided to create a foundation in Molly’s honor. Its’ purpose is to assist those parents, who besides having to deal with the unbearable grief of losing their children, sometimes come to the conclusion that they do not have enough money to pay for all of the funeral expenses and a tombstone. We want to help these parents avoid the guilt, anger, and sadness of not being able to provide a grave marker for one of the most precious people in their lives.
The Molly Murphy Unicorn Foundation has purchased several tombstones for unmarked graves of children in Miami Memorial Park, outside Covington, Ohio, where Molly is buried. Our plan is to finish marking all graves of babies, children and teenagers in Miami Memorial Park and then hopefully continue this same process in the remaining cemeteries in Covington, Bradford and Pleasant Hill. Eventually we would like to continue expanding to help families in all of Miami County and possibly the rest of Ohio or even help families nationally. Our hope is that these grave markers will help the families honor the memory of the child they lost. The foundation has also contributed to local children’s ministries and other programs that benefit kids, and we hope to continue finding ways that we can make a difference in the lives of children.
Mission Statement: The Molly Murphy Unicorn Foundation was established to help ease the burden of families who have lost their children by assisting with headstones and other memorial expenses. There seemed to be no limit to Molly’s imagination, so to keep her loving and caring memory alive, we will work together to make the unattainable a reality.
